Where a stock cover is trimmed to fit, the cut edge is a raw metal edge without the formed drip profile of the original factory edge. Water runs to the lowest point of the cover — often the cut edge — and enters at the raw seam rather than shedding past the chase wall.
Incorrect drip edge geometry
A stock cover cut down from a larger piece retains the drip edge profile only on the sides that were not cut. The cut sides have no drip edge — water runs flat to the edge and wicks between the cover and the chase wall top rather than dripping clear.
Approximate collar fit
